Kickelhahn

Kickelhahn Hike

At the top of the mountain, you can hear the wind rustling through the trees and enjoy breathtaking views of the landscape. On a clear day, you can even see the Brocken mountain in the Harz region. The approximately 11 km trail around Kickelhahn Mountain is perfect for hiking enthusiasts.

How the Mountain Got its Name

Presumably, the mountain was named after the capercaillie bird that used to inhabit the surrounding woods. The Weimar Court considered it a prized trophy for hunting.

Fun fact:

The Kickelhahn Tower, which had its first stone laid in 1854, is one of the oldest lookouts in Germany! If you’re planning to visit, don’t forget to check out the Jagdhaus Gabelbach Museum and the memorial to the author Joseph Victor von Scheffel on your way down.
