About us (1/4)
The abbreviation ISWI stands for International Student Week in Ilmenau.
The festival is open for students of all faculties from all over the world.
With approximately 300 participants it is the largest international student festival in Germany.
The aim of ISWI is to overcome global differences through personal contacts and mutual understanding.
ISWI should be a meeting platform for young people from different culture areas to get to know each other
and discuss their points of view. This further fosters tolerance and understanding of others.

Under the motto “time to think”, people from different political and cultural backgrounds
get a chance to express their personal views.
Thus we want to contribute to the reduction of prejudices and reservation, further the interexchange between cultures
as well as the spread of a liberal thought.
Especially for Ilmenau students it will be a perfect oppurtunity to broaden their horizon and to develop international friendships.
These friendships, but also the event itself with its large cultural highlights and lectures
from reputable people are outstanding advertisement for the Technical University of Ilmenau,
the town of Ilmenau and the state of Thuringia.
Furthermore we want to present Germany as a cosmopolitan and hospitable country and thereby
set a clear sign against racism and xenophobia.
To achieve this, collaboration between the campus and the town as well as between the TU Ilmenau
and other Thuringian universities should be improved.
The assistants and group leaders of ISWI will achieve a higher social competence through work with the participants.
They will carry responsibility and work independently. Notably, the same goes for the organisation team.
Overall the student life will be intelectually and culturally enriched, thus counteracting the popular apprehension
of the “unworldly academic” will. But the citizens of the town and the surrounding areas should also benefit from the event.
